7.1 miles, gymnastics, 2.5 miles, sick... again
That is how you can sum up from Saturday through to today.
I am hoping I can get some kind of something in either tonight or tomorrow… but I feel pretty awful (sore throat/cough/aches). I think it might be my body telling me to rest.
1650 yard swim
yeah… that totally happened during lunch today!
The chipotle happened…
It’s been a good day!
swam last night...
1200 un-interesting yards in 20 minutes. Would have done more but my foot cramped up like crazy!!!
Trying to decide if I should swim, run or both tonight!

5 weeks to baseline half marathon
Each year I run the (used to be National, is now Rock ‘n’ Roll) half marathon in DC in mid March. I used it as my baseline for my running year ahead. The first time I ran it, it was my very first half marathon. I had no other goals than to compete it in under 2 hours. I did - 1:57:48. Which was pretty impressive because my training had really fallen by the wayside during swim and dive...

getting new suits makes me like swimming again
I bought 3 new sparkle suits from splish! Since its so fun to wear them, I have actually been going under water while at the pool! (usually I teach while standing instead of actually swimming)
I dove (okay 5 dives, but its something) on Monday. Swam 1100 on Tuesday, swam 1200 yesterday and followed it up with 2.75mi on a treadmill.
I love new years for motivation!

Lazy Bones
I just did not feel like going to the gym this morning, so I didn’t. Instead I worked on a post for my style blog, went to swim practice to see Scott, put gas in my car, read some nikon lens reviews, and am now dreaming of playing with my camera.
I think my body just needs this week to rest. I have been so busy with work and being sick and holidays, that I’m okay with relaxing.
I am...

to half marathon or not to half marathon, that is...
I’m heading to Grand Cayman on Saturday for 5 days with my family. There just happens to be a half marathon there on Sunday. I was originally going to run it (when we talked about the trip), then I changed my mind and thought it might be nice to just relax, but now I am thinking that maybe I ought to run it…
What to do, what to do?
Aside from trying to decide whether or not to do the...

MCM - more than just running 26.2 miles
I didn’t think running the Marine Corps Marathon would be anything more than running a 26.2 mile race… boy was I wrong!
So many people were running in memory or in honor of others, and it really is a tribute. A marathon is grueling like nothing else I have ever done. It’s so much more than lacing up, heading to the starting line, and running to the finish.
Your body, even well...

am I just symptoms?
I re-read the PDF that I posted yesterday. Then I realized that so many of my personality traits are actually just symptoms.
… most people with hypermobility appear to make excess adrenaline, which may account for the high-energy, always-on-the-go lifestyle of many hypermobile people.
So am I just symptoms? Or do the symptoms make me who I am?
All I know is that I am frustrated that I...
answers!
I wrote about my pain way back when I started this blog (you can read about it here). I had really be resigned to just have pain all the time and cycles where it gets worse and better for the rest of my life without a real explanation. Then towards the end of July (my trip to Europe might have started it) my pain started to get worse. The increase in pain caused me to get a little more emotionally...

New Ten Mile PR!!!
Yesterday I dropped 2:15 for a new ten mile PR of 1:23:35.
I was seriously shocked because I really didn’t do well in my last 10k on September 18th. I also haven’t been doing much running over a 11:30 pace, since I have been mostly focusing on distance with the marathon coming up.
It just goes to show that endurance/interval training at a low intensity can help your perform at a...

Army Ten Miler and Yoga!
I totally feel ready for both the Army Ten Miler (this Sunday) and the Marine Corps Marathon (3 weeks from Sunday)! I took it easy last weekend doing 14 miles at an easy pace and heading to Bikram Yoga on Sunday evening and this morning.
I think I am going to try to make Bikram a part of my training through the winter. There really is nothing like it. Today I didn’t quite feel with it, yet...
The good things
I needed to write this to remind myself that I have a lot of good things going on. So here is my list:
I am making the leap into portrait photography! Right now I am booking mini-sessions only, and I’m gonna go from there. It’s a big step for me to put myself out there and actually try to turn something that I do for fun into something I might want to do for a living. I have a...
I need to grow up
It’s fairly clear that I act like a petty child when I don’t get my way.
I need to grow up.
Fairy tales don’t exist. Hearts get broken. And it’s not the movies, people work things out without happy endings and montages. They just live.
So I need to grow up. As my roomie would say, “put on my big girl pants.” Life’s hard, deal with it.
So… I know...

I want to be like that. That’s amazing.
You can be!! I just followed a simple training plan that upped mileage for 2 weeks, decreased for a week, and up again for 2… I designed it based on Galloway’s run/walk/run and some of Hal Higdon’s methods!

29.1 miles - that's right - marathon+
I totally can’t believe that I forgot to post on here that Jenny and I ran 29.1 miles in honor of her 29th birthday (today) on Saturday!! It was great!!
We rocked the first 12.5 with Manda at a slow and steady 13:30 pace, then kept going for a full 26.34 - finishing the back half at an 11:30 pace - for an average 12:24.
Then we walked the additional to get up to 29 miles!
It was...
quick recovery!
You know, it’s super strange how quickly I feel better from all the soreness from wakeboarding/racing! I think the more you use your body, the more apt it becomes at getting over being pushed. I feel about 85% normal today - so that’s pretty good!
I’m gonna try to do an easy run tomorrow morning then take it easy the rest of the week since we have “the first and only Jenny...
I'm back in a relationship... with the treadmill
I have decided that when its raining and I need to run fast, I need to treadmill it :)
Last night I did 4 miles in 34:04 (the first and last miles were my warm up and cool down, the middle two miles were my workout and were done in 15:30).
It was kinda fun and went by quickly… maybe I’ll try to do 45 minutes next time :)
the plan for september :)
9/8 - easy run
9/10 - 22 miles
9/11 - cheer for Josh as he does the Nations Tri!
9/12 - easy morning run
9/14 - 10 mile morning run
9/16 - easy morning run
9/18 - Kit’s Miracle Mile 10k
9/21 - easy morning run
9/24 - 29 mile run for Jenny’s birthday
9/28 - easy morning run

And that is that! I am going to try to find some time to lift and go to yoga,...
17.79 miles yesterday
My legs actually feel okay today too! I am just excited that Amanda has committed to the Marathon and that she, Jenny, and I are gonna rock 22 miles next weekend!!!
Life is good and running is awesome!

10 miles + burger king = 3 miles... right?
Why do I always eat crap for lunch when I go for amazing morning runs!? Yep… my 10.8 mile run was undone by a whopper jr and a kids chick nuggets meal.
8 miles this morning with Manda and Jenny!
I feel great after my 8 mile run this morning! I wished that we had the time to get 10 in, but 8 is pretty great!
So, I have stopped fighting my body (and have also been indulging on some things I shouldn’t - Like the doughnuts yesterday) and have kept on 3 of the 5 lbs I gained (and lost, then gained again) in Europe. The one difference that I noticed is that maybe I now need to go up a...
3 dougnuts... what was i thinking!?
glazed doughnuts are my arch nemesis. They are so delicious going down, but now they are trying to destroy me from the inside! OUCH!!!!
from Trolly to Trolly!
Last weekend I ran from the edge of one town to the edge of another, alone. This week I ran from the Herndon Trolly to the Vienna Trolly with Jenny (and my mom came for the beginning).
We did a total of 18 miles. 17 running (doing our 1:1 run/walk ratio) and then we popped into Starbucks and walked a mile with our coffee. We now have two weeks of shorter runs before we do our next longest run - a...
5.1 with Manda
Last night after lessons I ran 5.1 miles with Amanda. It was super humid, though it’s much better today, last night felt like running through soup. My legs were sore. It just proves to me that I HAVE to slow down on my long runs. Good thing I usually only run fast alone.
Manda is out of town this weekend, so Jenny and I are on our own for training tomorrow and Saturday. Though, Amanda and I...
14.79 mile long run, between two towns!
On Saturday morning I went out for a long run on my own. I decided to focus on one thing - running between the “entering” signs of the two neighboring towns. I went to Herndon first:
Then just focused on running my intervals and listening to my tunes - taking some pictures along the way:
Then making it all the way to the Vienna sign:
Here’s the map and stats from my...
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays!
Just like Jimmy Buffett, these are the days that Jenny and I have picked for our Marathon Training! We are 12 weeks away from the MCMarathon and couldn’t be more excited!
We started with the 12 mile run that I posted about on Saturday.
Kicked things up with a track workout on Tuesday.
And have an easy run planned for tonight!
I have been seriously struggling with my self confidence...
can I call it "REST"?
I have been so bad about my marathon training for the past 3-4 weeks. I was doing really well with base building and getting my long run mileage up, though I did struggle with both temp and speed workouts due to the heat. But now we are 12 weeks out from the marathon - it’s time to start my serious training!
I am such an optimist that instead of thinking of July as falling off my training,...
gym this morning
I was thinking about going for a run this morning, but after falling last Monday morning, I was being superstitious and didn’t… so I hit the gym for some abs, arms, stretching and handstands!
They have a mini tramp on the floor that I REALLY want to play with - yes play - but I don’t want to a)get in trouble, b)look like an idiot.
What would you think if you saw me jumping up...
